The Design Review Officer is appointed by the Community Development Director (who is the Design Review Administrator) to act as an assistant of the Design Review Administrator as the Design Review Officer, who may exercise all of the powers of the Design Review Administrator. The Design Review Officer ensures that new development is compatible with the physical setting of the site and the visual character of the community. Specific design standards for each community have been adopted by the County (contained in the Design Review (DR) Zoning Ordinance (Chapter 28.1) (.87mb)) which is used by the Officer to evaluate and take action on each application.

Public hearings for Emerald Lake Hills Design Review Officer are held on the first Tuesday of each month. Meetings are held in Room 101 of the County Office building, 455 County Center, Redwood City. Construction over 500 sq. ft. is subject to officer review and application requirements.  Minor repair, replacement and construction up to 500 sq. ft. that complies with zoning district requirements may be exempt from officer review but subject to application requirements for an exemption.  For additional information, please call Erica Adams at (650) 363-1828 or the Planning Counter at (650) 363-1825.
