Proposed Pescadero Fire Station 59

CSA-11 Extension and Replacement Pescadero Fire Station 59 Project

The County has applied for a Local Coastal Program (LCP) Amendment to replace the existing Pescadero Fire Station (Station 59) and to extend CSA-11 water service to serve the Pescadero Middle/High School and replacement Station 59.

The existing Station 59 is located within a floodplain and is threatened annually with interior flooding resulting in mold and plumbing backups at the facility.  Seasonal flooding of the adjacent Butano Creek also denies fire personnel direct access to the Pescadero Community.

The LCP amendment will facilitate the following:

  1. Construction of a replacement Station 59 to be located on the La Honda-Pescadero Unified School District property currently development with the Pescadero Middle/High School at 350-360 Butano Cut Off.
  2. Partial Demolition of Station 59 located at 1200 Pescadero Creek Road.  Demolition includes the barracks, but the apparatus bay is to remain.
  3. CSA-11 water service extension to serve the future Station 59 and existing Pescadero Middle/High School.  Connections to the CSA-11 extension are restricted to the school and fire station only.

The Planning Department will process the project in two stages: LCP amendment and subsequent Coastal Development Permits.

Stage 1: LCP Amendment.  The LCP amendment process will only include text amendments to specific LCP policies and will require multiple public hearings, approval by the Board of Supervisors, and certification by the California Coastal Commission.  No construction is approved under the LCP amendment.

Stage 2: Coastal Development Permits.  Construction of CSA-11 and Station 59 require approval of Coastal Development Permits.  The permit process will include environmental review and consideration at public hearings.  If approved, construction may begin subject to building permit issuance.
