Highway 1 Congestion and Safety Improvement Project
In 2009, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adopted Phase 1 of the Highway 1 Safety and Mobility Improvement Study. The study, a result of an intensive community-based planning process in Miramar, El Granada and Princeton, developed a plan to better serve vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle mobility in the Highway 1 corridor.
In 2012, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adopted Phase 2 of the Highway 1 Safety and Mobility Improvement Study. Phase 2, also developed through an intense community-based planning process, identified transportation improvements along the Highway 1 corridor in Moss Beach and Montara to assist in the mobility of vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists.
Both Phase 1 and Phase 2 identified a series of pedestrian crossings, raised medians and left turn lanes to improve vehicular, pedestrian and bicycle mobility. In 2012, San Mateo County received $1.5 million in county-wide transportation funds to design and permit these congestion and safety projects.
